Our Story

A Reflection on Missionary Discourse and African Identity

In 2016, as I neared the completion of my Master’s degree in Seminary, a significant moment unfolded during a conversation with my missions professor. He had been expounding on missions in Africa, and while some of his observations were indeed accurate, his portrayal of Africa was quite grim. He depicted it as a continent inhabited by largely illiterate, impoverished individuals, perpetually embroiled in civil conflict. Being the only African in class, I felt a strong inner urge to voice my perspective.

A Journey of Purpose & Collaboration

Following our discussion about life in Africa, I embarked on a journey of introspection and prayer that extended over several years. Then, in 2019, an extraordinary transformation occurred. The Holy Spirit moved me in ways I could scarcely have imagined, igniting an unshakable desire to establish a ministry with a singular mission: to empower the people of Africa. This marked the birth of Empower Africa, and I was fortunate to have the esteemed support of Mark Martin and Nelly Movine, who joined me as the founding members of our board of directors.

Pioneering Change with Tax-Exempt
Status

On June 17, 2019, Empower Africa received its official certificate of formation from the Texas Secretary of State. Subsequently, on March 20, 2020, we achieved tax-exempt status under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3). This prestigious designation enables our donors and supporters to claim tax deductions for their contributions to Empower Africa under Section 170 of the IRC. Furthermore, Empower Africa is now eligible to receive tax-deductible bequests, transfers, and gifts under Sections 2055, 2106, or 2522 of the IRC. As we continue our journey, Empower Africa operates as a prominent public charity, dedicated to making a positive impact on the African continent and its people.
